CAHB Lab About Us

ABOUT CAHB LAB

The Computational Analysis of Health Behavior Laboratory (CAHB Lab) interdisciplinary approach and network of collaborators draws from a variety of fields including computational science, public health, psychology, data science, computer science, and engineering. We are committed to building teams where all members have the freedom, and expectation, to express their thoughts concerning our shared endeavors. We value diversity of representation and thought and aim to learn about our world and ourselves from each other.

Vision

Human beings are the most complicated entities of which we are aware. As we’ve become geographically and digitally networked to each other, this complexity has increased exponentially, which presents enormous challenges to understanding the impetuses of our individual and collective behavior. But gaining this knowledge is crucial to advancing society, since our behavior underlies nearly all shared challenges, from our adaptation to climate change to the prevention and management of disease, and so on. We believe that wearable and environmental sensors have dramatically increased our ability to measure behavior, both in context and comprehensiveness. The data streams that these devices produce and the experiments that they enable, make it possible to study humans at an unprecedented scope. We aim to leverage this opportunity by performing rigorous science that investigates the catalysts of our behavior.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
